Freetown, Sierra Leone, September 26, 2019 – The Director of PeaceKeeping Operations at Ministry of Defence, Colonel ABS Bah has confirmed that a total of 52 RSLAF personnel are currently deployed as staff officers and military observers in 10 different AU and UN missions around the world.

MOD/RSLAF KEY MESSAGE ON THE OUTCOME OF THE INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE ALLEGED STOLEN BABY AT 34 MILITARY HOSPITAL

1. MoD/RSLAF has recently followed media publications about an allegation of stolen baby against four medical workers at 34 Military Hospital. The allegation was levied by one Beneta Kargbo. Since the matter was being investigated, MoD/RSLAF was restrained in making any public statement about the accusation.

2. However, MoD/RSLAF would like the public to know that Director of Public Prosecution has recently proffered a legal opinion on matter, stating that the allegation could not be charged to court due to lack of evidence.

MOD/RSLAF KEY MESSAGE ON SALONE TIMES PUBLICATIONS TITLED “MILLIONS IN LIMBO AT 34 MILITARY HOSPITAL” AND “34 MILITARY HOSPITAL IN SHAMBLES”

1. MoD/RSLAF has read the contents of the two publications of Salone Times newspaper. The first edition was published on 9 September 2019 with the banner headline “Millions in Limbo at 34 Military Hospital” and the second edition on 18 September 2019 with another banner headline “34 Military Hospital in Shambles”. Hence, MoD/RSLAF considers the publications as inaccurate and misleading.

2. MoD/RSLAF would, therefore, like the public to know that on 6 September, 2019, as part of its oversight functions, the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Defence visited 34 Military Hospital in order “to interface with all the Departments and Units of the hospital”. The visiting team had six members including the Committee Chairman, Hon. Hafiju Maada Kanja.

A NEW INFANTRY BRIGADE IN THE EASTERN REGION...(Click to Read More)

MOD/RSLAF KEY MESSAGE ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A NEW INFANTRY BRIGADE IN THE EASTERN REGION

1. MoD/RSLAF would like the public to know that it has already commenced implementing the plan to establish a new infantry brigade in the Eastern Region. The new Brigade Headquarters will be located in Kenema with a component of three infantry battalions, which will be deployed to operationally cover Kenema, Kailahun and Kono Districts.

2. As the first step in implementing the plan, three senior military officers have been designated to spearhead the new infantry brigade. Colonel AS Bockarie has been appointed as Acting Brigade Commander with Lieutenant Colonel HS Jalloh and Lieutenant Colonel MAB Koroma as Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff respectively.

1. MoD/RSLAF has followed some insinuations regarding the recent resignations of three senior military officers. Hence, MoD/RSLAF would like to correct the inaccurate and misleading versions that were making rounds in the social media about these resignations.

2. Indeed, over the past three months, MoD/RSLAF has received resignation letters from three senior military officers, namely Brigadier Albert Yamba Kargbo, Lieutenant Colonel MEA Kargbo and Squadron Leader Alfred Kamara.

MOD/RSLAF KEY MESSAGE ON THE OUTCOME OF THE INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE ESCAPE OF CAPTAIN PATRICK KAMARA FROM THE MILITARY CUSTODIAL CENTRE AT WILBERFORCE BARRACKS IN FREETOWN.

1. MoD/RSLAF would like to remind the public that in the early hours of Tuesday, 21 May, 2019 Captain Patrick Kamara, who was being tried in Court Martial along with two others for various offences relating to missing ammunition, escaped from the Military Custodial Centre at Wilberforce Barracks in Freetown.

2. Subsequently, eight military personnel were arrested and investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for the offence of “negligently permitting the alleged escape of a prisoner”.
